This page is no longer current as the Games are over for this year.
Please do read it if interested and take a look at the gallery of images and videos. Perhaps we will see you in Coventry next year!
On yer Marks…Set…GOOOOOO!
Oh yes! We're getting in to the swing of things and for some, training has begun for this year's British Transplant Games which are set to take place in Newport, Wales over four days between 25th and 28th July 2019. We want to encourage as many people to join Team Hammersmith either as a team member or supporter. Help us achieve another medal-laden year (although we all know it's not just the winning but the taking part that counts!)
The BTG is an annual sporting & social event and is now over 40 years old! It's a wonderful showcase of the sporting talent and skills present within the transplant community,
which for some have remained latent for far too long.
A bit about the games:
Running for over 40 years, The Westfield Health British Transplant Games are a celebration of life.
Taking place in different host cities every Summer, the games see teams from hospitals across the UK come together to compete in a medley of sports. The 4-day event attracts around 1000 transplant athletes and more than 1500 supporters.
An inclusive Games: Transplant survivors including children as young as five can compete in more than 25 sports and indeed, many athletes also go on to compete at the World Transplant Games.
About the Games: The Games are organised on behalf of Transplant Sport whose aim is to raise awareness of the need for organ donation, encourage transplant recipients to lead active lifestyles and show appreciating for, and remember, donors and their families.
The British Transplant Games also help to increase the awareness of Anthony Nolan and their need for blood stem cells and bone marrow donation.
The Games are open to all abilities so whether you're a fitness fan or an armchair enthusiast, there is a sporting event that will suit almost everyone. Registration is open now and closes on 3rd of May, so don't delay and get your name down ASAP. If you're struggling and need help with this, contact Dino - The Team Manager at firstname.lastname@example.org or Penne - WLKPA Chair at email@example.com
