On yer Marks…Set…WAIT!
Sadly, the British Transplant Games which were set to take place in Coventry this summer, have had to be cancelled due to the Coronavirus. The games will return next year in 2021 and will be hosted in Leeds. We want to encourage as many transplant patients (donors and receivers) to join Team Hammersmith next year either as a team member or supporter. Help us bring home a haul of medals or just enjoy the atmosphere. Swipe through the image gallery above for a taster of what's in store.
The BTG is an annual sporting & social event and is now over 40 years old! It's a wonderful showcase of the sporting talent and skills present within the transplant community,
which for some have remained latent for far too long.
A bit about the games:
Running for over 40 years, The Westfield Health British Transplant Games are a celebration of life.
Taking place in different host cities every Summer, the games see teams from hospitals across the UK come together to compete in a medley of sports. The 4-day event attracts around 1000 transplant athletes and more than 1500 supporters.
An inclusive Games: Transplant survivors including children as young as five can compete in more than 25 sports and indeed, many athletes also go on to compete at the World Transplant Games.
About the Games: The Games are organised on behalf of Transplant Sport whose aim is to raise awareness of the need for organ donation, encourage transplant recipients to lead active lifestyles and show appreciating for, and remember, donors and their families.
The British Transplant Games also help to increase the awareness of Anthony Nolan and their need for blood stem cells and bone marrow donation.
